The Library Services Assistant is an Assistant II position ($15.20/hr) responsible for assisting staff in the operation of the service areas on the 1st floor of the Library. Duties include:
Circulation: Perform general circulation desk duties. Students will check books out to library users, process returns, maintain & update patron records in the desktop database, collect cash book sales, and direct incoming telephone calls and in-person questions to appropriate staff members. Students will also often act as first point of contact for users and assist staff with check-in and online appointment scheduling.
Shelving: Duties include shelving library books and DVDs, collecting used library materials, keeping In-House Circulation statistics by scanning them at the service point, general maintenance of the Library stacks, and other tasks as assigned.
Research Help: Help users navigate the physical library space as well as online resources; answer and record reference questions in person, by email and via telephone; connect users to librarians as needed. Provide support for users at scanning stations.
Skills Needed: Strong customer service and organizational skills, curiosity, and the desire to gain some expertise in using the library's resources. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply. The position does require some light lifting.
