Fleet Search is RISD's integrated database search tool. It indexes not only the library catalog, but the many academic databases we provide access to, which contain articles from encyclopedias, journals, magazines, and newspapers (and a lot more!). With one click you can search everything at the same time.

Tips for using Fleet Search:

• Use the left hand panel to filter your search results. Checking off "Full Text" will remove library books and limit your results to items with a PDF or otherwise immediately accessible text. It's also possible to filter by publication date, language, subject, and much more.
• Use the tools on the right hand panel within each item record to export citations, print, and save. If you email articles to yourself, Fleet Search will send you both a citation and a PDF if it's available!
• If Fleet Search sends you back into the library catalog to find an article, it's possible you need to track down the magazine in hard copy at the library. If you need help doing this, ask someone at the Research Help Desk.

Try using individual specialized databases such as the ones below. You can also search a list of electronically available periodicals (magazines and journals) using the Publication Finder (formerly E-Journals Index).

Many key periodicals arrive at Fleet Library in hard copy, so keep in mind that when you are searching for current articles online, you may need to come to 15 West and find them in print.
