Printing and Scanning @ Fleet Library: Home

i need to print now! I don't have time to read this whole thing!

You have two options.
Both require RISDbucks payment (if you don't have those, visit us at the circulation desk).

1. Print from a library computer

  • Open and download your file (from email, USB, etc) on the computer
  • Click print
  • Choose your settings and printer from the popup box
  • Swipe your card at the kiosk near that printer and follow the instructions

2. Print from your own computer

  • Upload a document from your computer to (you don't need a password, just the #)
  • Choose your settings on that page. Be careful to set them exactly the way you want.
  • No need to "send" the print job once it is uploaded. Swipe your card at a printer and follow the instructions
  • IMPORTANT: We cannot re-do these print jobs, so make sure you bring your laptop or document with you to the library just in case something goes wrong. If you leave it somewhere else on campus, you may find yourself running back and forth!

Copying and scanning

There is one color photocopier (Xerox machine) in the library, in the first floor copy room. While you cannot send print jobs directly to this machine, you can use it to duplicate and copy in two different sizes. It can also be used to play with images and text using Reduce/Enlarge, Brightness, and Contrast settings. If you like reading or making zines, these are the machines to know! They are powerful but take a bit of practice to use, so don't hesitate to ask for help. You'll pay for photocopying with RISDbucks.

We also have a few different options for scanning, which is free! There is a KIC overhead scanner or book scanner in the first floor copy room.  This is great for quick scans of documents or images and especially good for books. Files can be sent to yourself via email or saved on USB. There are also several more traditional flatbed scanners: two in the Picture collection and one larger Epson Expression 10000 in the main library. The Epson scanner has a 12" x 17" flatbed and is particularly good for scanning drawings and artwork. All of these machines are connected to iMacs equipped with scanning software and the Adobe editing suite.

Finally, if you want really high quality capture of your work, we have a copy stand. You must provide your own camera or rent one from Media Resources.

The "Fine print"

We are not a professional printing facility. Sometimes we run out of things. Our printers jam and break. You may need to be patient with us, since this is only one small part of our jobs. But we want to help you, so just ask!
