RISD Architectural Drawings: Home

Architectural Drawings

The Archives received from the Facilities Department ten 5-drawer flat files containing architectural drawings for RISD buildings. Drawings from other departments include the original and revised plans for the Chace Center. A FileMaker Pro database has been constructed to organize the 1811 records that have been created to describe over 12,400 drawings (originals, revisions, and copies). The database fields include drawing title, document type, information about the creator(s) of the drawings, dates, building name, location, and type, number of sheets, scale, and a short descriptive note.

Each LibGuide page provides information about the building's history including, if known, the building's name, alternative name(s), location, the date RISD acquired the property, construction date, architect, original plans, and plat/lot numbers.

The LibGuide lists each drawing or set of drawings by title and date organized by building. Structures with multiple buildings such as the Museum of Art and the Design Center have separate entries for each building.

The drawings for the Museum of Art and the President's House are restricted. Contact the Archives' staff for details.
