FAQs & other stuff

Do you have free magazines available?

There is a "free bin"  of magazines and other materials on the shelves just outside the door to our space.  Take whatever you need!

How about free materials?

Sometimes we have surplus materials samples as well. (fabrics, carpet samples, wood pieces, etc..)

How do I renew my pictures?

You may call the desk, 401-709-5938, (leave a message if you reach voicemail) or bring in your folder in person and we will renew them for you.  The phone number should be stamped somewhere on the back of your envelope.

What if my pictures are overdue?

We will give you one courtesy renewal, and if still not returned, you will receive an overdue notice, and then a bill for the material.

If I have overdue pictures, can I still borrow?

You cannot owe over 10.00 in fines to the RISD library in order to borrow.

Is it okay to use these images in a publication?

It depends...some of our material is in the public domain, but much of it is not.  We do not own the copyright on all of the images that we clip and file for research.  Please be aware of copyright law and respect the rights of the creators.

Can I work in the Picture Collection?

The Picture Collection employs students as assistants.  Duties include checking in/out material, processing new material, assisting patrons with image research, and filing.  Positions fill quickly...please contact the supervisor to inquire about open positions.  You must apply through the RISD LIbrary website - About - Student Employment
