Printmaking

An introductory guide to library resources for Printmaking.

Introduction

Relief printing is "defined as an impression made by a hand or object that has been transferred onto an alternative surface." The image is made from the raised area of the print surface leaving an impression on the print material. "The origins of relief printing are ancient and varied. Evidence of carved reliefs can be traced to the Sumerian civilization of c. 4000 BCE." The Printmaking Bible (p. 166)
