The Library Services Assistant is responsible for assisting staff in the operation of the service areas on the 1st floor of the Library. Duties include:
Circulation: Perform general circulation desk duties. These duties are primarily checking books in and out of the library, registering patrons into the computer system, collecting and recording overdue fines, and directing incoming telephone calls to appropriate departments. Act as first point of contact for visitor appointments to the library by assisting staff with check-in and online appointment scheduling.
Shelving: Duties include shelving library books and dvds, collecting used library materials, keeping In-House Circulation statistics with a portable barcode scanner, general maintenance of the Library stacks, and other tasks as assigned.
Research Help: Help users navigate the physical library space as well as online resources; answer and record reference questions in person, by email and via telephone; connect users to librarians as needed. Provide support for users at scanning stations.
Skills Needed: Strong customer service and organizational skills, curiosity, and the desire to gain some expertise in using the library's resources. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply. The position does require some light lifting.
Interested students must have a Social Security number, the W-4 & I-9 tax forms on file at the Work Study Office and be able to start immediately.
