The City of Providence Archives has physical copies of Sanborn Maps for Rhode Island dating back to 1927. They also have Plat maps, street layouts, blueprints, and other resources on urban development in Providence. You need to make a research appointment to view these resources.

The State Archives is home to more than 10 million letters, photographs, and important state documents that form a permanent, tangible record of Rhode Island’s rich history. Our holdings date back to 1638. We welcome the public to engage with our collections by visiting us or exploring our holdings online.

The State Library has a robust collection that is primarily legislation-related, with the earliest holdings published in 1750. While the State Library is a non-lending library, these collections are accessible to researchers who visit during normal business hours

The Historical Topographic Map Collection, or HTMC, provides a comprehensive digital repository of all scales and all editions of U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) printed topographic maps that is easily discovered, browsed, and downloaded by the public at no cost.
