LAS E101 First-Year Literature Seminar: Research Sources

A guide for English 101

Where to Start?

Literary Reference Center

Because this resource can function as both a Reference source and a full-text article finder, the Literary Reference Center might be a good database to begin your searching with (it can search the MLA International Bibliography at the same time).

Reference Sources - print & electronic

Use the Reference Collection at the Library

Dictionaries, subject encyclopedias, biographical sources, handbooks, bibliographies, and directories are useful sources for supplemental, factual information and for overviews of a topic. Many contain lists of sources for further reading.

Access Online Reference databases through the library's website: > Databases A-Z

Some good resources to start with are:

Off Campus access to Online Resources

If you're off campus when you are conducting your research, login to your library account for full text access.

Login process:
-type in your first name then last name as it appears on the front of your RISD ID

Barcode-type in the 14 digit barcode number located on the back of your RISD ID

You need to have a current RISD Library account for this to work.
Contact the Research Help Desk for assistance.
