Mapping Inequality allows users to explore detailed maps of 225 U.S. cities created by the Home Owners’ Loan Corporation between 1935 and 1940. The government agency graded areas of cities in terms of investment potential. Green meant best, blue was considered still desirable, yellow meant definitely declining, and red meant hazardous.
