Course Reserves

Use the Reserves Faculty Request Form to make all Reserve requests.

Guidelines:

  • Fair use – case specific, 1 chapter, 1 article or 10% - whatever is less;
    good faith or public domain (before 1923) may be posted without copyright permission.

  • Links to online articles to which the Library has access may be included.

  • Library staff will scan items that are copyright compliant for E-Reserves and try to get copyright permission for those that are not.

  • Each course can be password protected (provided by the instructor).

  • Reserves are available for a specific semester/range of dates.

  • Reserves are not downloadable.

  • The scanning resolution is scan to screen.

  • A direct link to the Reserves can be sent to faculty for distribution.

Course Reserves (non-electronic)
Books, media and photocopies of articles may be placed On Reserve at the Circulation Desk.
Use the Reserves Faculty Request Form to make all Reserve requests.

Guidelines:

  • Most items remain on reserve for the entire semester.   

  • You may add items or remove items throughout the semester.

  • Personal copies of books and media may be placed on Reserve.

  • Reserve lists from previous years will be archived and can be re-activated. 

  • Links to online articles to which the Library has access may be included.

  • A direct link to the Course Reserves can be sent to faculty for distribution.

Register Teaching Assistants to check out materials for you

Deputy Borrowers
are students/Teaching Assistants permitted to check out library materials for a faculty member.

Materials handled by Deputy Borrowers are checked out to the faculty member’s RISD library account. Deputy Borrowers must show their RISD ID in order to check out items for faculty. Each faculty member may have one Deputy Borrower at a given time.
