Course Reserves

Books and other media can be placed on reserve for your students at the Circulation Desk, and a list of reserve materials will be posted on the library website for your class to use. We can also post PDF articles and links to streaming and open content.

Use the Reserves Request Form to make all requests.

Guidelines:

  • Most items remain on reserve for the entire semester, but you may add or remove items throughout the semester.
  • Personal copies of books and media may be placed on Reserve.
  • Reserve lists from previous years are archived and can be re-activated.
  • We can scan from books/journals, but we are limited by copyright law.
    • Fair use – case specific, 1 chapter, 1 article or 10% - whatever is less;
      good faith or public domain (before 1923) may be posted without copyright permission.
  • If we do not have access to a book or article you need, let us know and we will try to procure a copy through another institution.
  • Please consider accessibility and know that we strive to provide accessible course texts

Curricular Video Reserve

If you have a film(s) you want to assign for class via Canvas, please email videoreserve@risd.edu. Some films can be sourced from Library streaming platforms, and titles from the physical Library collection can be scanned and inserted into your Canvas class page via Panopto player.  Please let us know what it is and we’ll source it.

Turnaround time is anywhere from a week to month, depending on varying factors, so please try to give us as much lead time as possible.

Register Teaching Assistants to check out materials for you

You can assign a students or Teaching Assistant to be a Deputy Borrower. This will permitted the student or TA to check out library materials for a you.

Materials handled by Deputy Borrowers are checked out to the faculty member’s RISD library account. Deputy Borrowers must show their RISD ID in order to check out items for faculty. Each faculty member may have one Deputy Borrower at a given time.
